History of a science: The 20-volume collection of books, dedicated to Russian discoverers, to be released
March 31, 2014 at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow was signed the Agreement on Cooperation between the Russian Geographical Society and published by the "Word". The parties will jointly prepare a 20-volume collection of books devoted to Russian discoverers.
Rare in filling and exquisite in registration edition titled "Russian Travel Library" is intended to perpetuate the memory of the people who pushed the horizons of the Russian state, the first to come to the "unknowing lands" raised the flag of power in remote parts of Eurasia, discovered and described for the Russians exotic countries, got new directions in the oceans.
The collection will be illustrated with unique maps and drawings of the archival holdings of the Russian Geographical Society. 20 volumes of "Russian Travel Library" cover the time period from the second half of the XV century to the first half of last century. The first volume begins with the "Journey Beyond Three Seas" by Athanasius Nikitin, and the last tells the story of the ice papanins epic. All volumes are provided with detailed inquiries and comments.
- The main part of the works in "Russian Travel Library" - is notes of travelers themselves: scientists, sailors, merchants, writers and publicists, as well as bibliographic essays written by pioneers of researchers - says a leading editor of the "Word" Pavel Rudnev.
It is planned, that all 20 volumes of the “Russian Travel Library” will be released in September-October 2014.
