The International Committee consisting of 24 experts has changed Wroclaw (Poland) the World Book Capital in 2016.

Wroclaw will become the World Book Capital of UNESCO “due to the high quality and great diversity by which the program is characterized”, as well as “in a sign of a special attention, which is paid to the masses, as well as the cooperation with the publishing, bookselling branches and libraries at the regional and international levels”, said the Director general of UNESCO Irina Bokova.

The city which bears the title of the World Book Capital is chosen by three organizations – the International Association of Publishers, the International Federation of Booksellers and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions.  The title is passed on April 23, on the World Book Day. This year the capital is Port-Harcourt in Nigeria, and in 2015 it will be Inchon in South Korea.

Wroclaw in 2016 will be not only the World Book Capital, but also the European capital of culture.
