History of Russia: The exhibition “The Military Code of Peter I” in Saint-Petersburg
The Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps (St. Petersburg) hosts the exhibition "Military Code of Peter I" to the 300th anniversary of the "Charter of the military land", approved by Peter I.
March 30 (April 10) 1716 by Peter I was approved the "Charter of the military land" - military-legal document, which recognized the creation in Russia of a regular army, and determined the order of its life and activity.
The new exhibition at the Museum of Artillery is presented the first edition of "Military regulations" (1716), rare books of the XVI-XVIII centuries, used by Peter I in the development of the statute. Among them are richly decorated with engravings "Military Book" by Leonard Fronsperger, published in the 1573-1575, "Charter of martial, cannon and other matters relating to military science" by O. M. Radishevsky compiled on the orders of Tsar Vasily Shuisky, Russian translation of the book titled "Teaching and Tricks of Military structure of the infantry", the Dutchman Johann Jakob von Wallhausen and others.
The following statutes of the Russian Army of the XVIII-XX centuries are also of interest. Many of them are equipped with parallel texts in German - this is another evidence of the fact that in the first half of the XVIII century in the Russian Army a large number of officers-foreigners served. In addition, the exhibition is complemented with authentic prints of Peter's time with the image of Russian victories over the Swedes in the Northern War (1700-1721).
The exhibition "Military Code of Peter I" will run until the end of April.
