International events: The first International festival of cultures of Russia – ASEAN to be held in Sochi

19-20 May 2016 in Sochi will be held the Jubilee Summit Russia - ASEAN, in which the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture will hold the first Transnational Cultural Festival Russia - ASEAN.

The program of the event - a gala concert, exhibition of folk arts and crafts of Russia and the ASEAN countries as well as thematic photo exhibition.

Opening of the festival will be held on May 19, 2016 in the Winter Theatre. On that day on the scene will come leading groups and artists from Russia, Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. On the same day at the summit will be held a meeting of Ministers of Culture of Russia and the ASEAN countries.

On May 20, the festival will start working ethno-fair thematic master classes, competitions and exhibitions. Festival guests will hear the music of Brunei, see dances of the peoples of the Philippines and Indonesia, will see the unique puppetry Myanmar and Thailand and the exhibition of national costumes and decorations, they will learn to paint Malaysia ornaments.  

The festival will help increasing interest in the traditions, cultural and spiritual heritage of the countries of Southeast Asia and Russia and aims to make a major contribution to the solution of pressing regional and international issues in the dialogue Russia - ASEAN.

The festival will also present a photo project by Sergey Kovalchuk "All ASEAN countries", which reflects the life and culture of Asia. The exhibition - images of monuments and historical places in Asia, the objects of modern architecture, photography and portraits of the old quarters of local residents.
