Libraries of the World: Rare books from the collections of the National Library of India are presented in the Russian State Library

Center of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library (Moscow) from September 2, 2016 invites you to the exhibition "The National Library of India visiting the Russian State Library: rare books of XVIII-XIX centuries from the collections of the two libraries" (together with the National Library of India, Embassy of India in Russia, the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre). It is held under the Cultural Exchange Program between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and is dedicated to the history of the Indian book publishing.

The exhibition presents about thirty rare books of XVIII-XIX centuries from the National Library of India and the same number of rarities of Oriental Literature Fund Centre. The oldest book in 1642, which was published in Goa, was given by the RSL Museum of books. You can see the book on the history, culture, philosophy, linguistics, dictionaries and grammar books in Indian languages.

One of the main goals of the exhibition - to show the geography of printing in India. Exhibits, published in Calcutta, Delhi, Madras, Bahrampure, Darja-ling and other cities, large and small are presented.

The exhibition will run until September 22, 2016.
