Exhibitions: Works by Salvador Dali and other Catalan surrealists are presented at the Hermitage
October 28, 2016, at the State Hermitage is held the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Surrealism in Catalonia. Artists Empordà and Salvador Dali", which presents twenty-nine and seventy works of Catalan artists.
Among the exhibits is not only painting, but also works of sculpture and drawings by Spanish masters from the end of the XIX century to the end of XX. For the first time Russian spectators have the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of the Spanish surrealists, to see and to understand the genesis of one of the most intriguing and attractive artistic events of the XX century.
Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - the main representative of surrealism as a worldwide phenomenon, despite its general popularity of the universal artist, remained not only Catalan, but largely resident of Empordà - Figueres, Kadakés and Portligat. His was inspired by friends since childhood landscapes, friends, artists with whom he has always been warm and friendly relations. Dali does not contain all Empordà painting and its surrealism, but he somehow inexplicably managed to first present it to the world and make famous.
The exhibition is organized by the State Hermitage together with the Catalan Agency of Cultural Heritage at the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, the municipalities of Girona and Figueres.
The exhibition "Surrealism in Catalonia. Artists Empordà and Salvador Dali" is held under the auspices of the V St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.
