National Museum of Sweden has made available for free download three thousand most popular works of art from his collection. Images in high resolution are available on Wikimedia Commons. Scalable image will also be added to the online database of the museum.

Until 2017 Gallery is closed for renovation, and everyone had more opportunities to enjoy the works of art in the past, the museum launched a joint project with the Wikimedia Sweden. As a result, about three thousand paintings entered the public domain.

Now zoomable images are in the database on the institution website, but so far they cannot download from there.

The Swedish National Museum promises to further develop their initiative. In the future, the establishment is going to create a portal with quick and easy access to all museum collections and archives (part of the National Museum collection also includes castles Gripsholm, Drottningholm, Strёmskholm, Rusenberg, Ulriksdal, as well as in china Museum in Gustavsberg).

The Gallery has joined the growing number of agencies that have opened their treasury for the Internet users. Among these museums - the Royal Arsenal, Skokloster Castle and Hallwyl museum in Sweden, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen.
