Information technology and libraries: Rare historical books from the libraries of St. Petersburg are digitized

ELAR Corporation has digitized more than two hundred of rare historical books from the libraries of St. Petersburg, creating electronic versions of publications in a PDF-format. The digitized books will be available to users of "Electronic library of Corporate network of public libraries of St. Petersburg Library" (KSOB SPb) via the Internet.

Digital Library KSOB St. Petersburg is a shared network resource, created to carry out the public service "Providing access to digital publications". The technology of creating full-text database involves scanning the original on the planetary-type equipment, which is not destructive to paper radiation and book cradle allows to reveal the publication, without damaging the binding. There were scanned 57,500 pages of documents to the A1 format.

After scanning and processing of images specialists of Retroconversion have indexed publications on 21 fields for bibliographic search. In order that users had the opportunity to read e-books in the most convenient format are created PDF-version publications.
