In 1800, on the square in front of the Mikhailovsky Castle was erected a monument to Peter the Great with the inscription "Great-grand-father", cast in 1745-1747 by model sculptor B. K. Rastrelli, made during the lifetime of Peter I. Laminated Mram The pedestal was carved by the architect FI Volkov. It reinforced the bronze bas-reliefs "The Poltava Battle" and "The Battle of Gangut", created by the young sculptors V. I. Demut-Malinovsky, I. I. Terebenev and I. E. Moiseev under the leadership of M. I. Kozlovsky.
