The monument to Peter the Great in the Peter and Paul Fortress was opened on June 7, 1991. Sculptor Mikhail Shemyakin brought it to the city of Leningrad. The monument is a sculpture of Peter I, sitting on the throne. M. Shemyakin used in his lifetime mask of Peter the Great, executed in 1719 by sculptor Carlo Rastrelli.
