Volgograd Arena is an international football stadium , built to host the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia. Volgograd is included in the list of 11 cities that host World Cup matches. The stadium is located on Lenin Avenue, on the bank of the Volga River at the foot of the Mamayev Kurgan, on the site of the former Central Stadium. The architectural feature of Volgograd Arena is a large cable-stayed roof, which is a kind of bicycle wheel made of high-strength steel ropes. The shape of the facade is conical, tapering downwards. In the design of the self-supporting facade structures, there are associations with the local tradition of complex weaving from the vine and the festive salute of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The height of the structure is 49.5 m, its diameter is about 303 m, the area of ​​the stadium is 123 970 sq. M. m; capacity - 45000 people, a zone for 2280 places for the press and 460 places for representatives of low-mobile groups of the population is allocated. The opening of the stadium took place on April 3, 2018 .
