
The heritage of St. Luke will be told about at the Presidential Library video lecture
On May 31, 2018 at 13:00 the Presidential Library will host a video lecture from the cycle "Knowledge of Russia" on the topic "Education, Science, Church: Joint Responses to the Challenges of Modern Civilization", which will link St. Petersburg and Simferopol. The video lecture will be held within the framework of the International Scientific Conference on the Day of Remembrance of St. Luke, Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea, Professor V. F. Voino-Yasenetsky.
Archbishop Luka, in the world Valentin Feliksovich Voino-Yasenetsky (1877-1961), a famous Russian and Soviet surgeon, in the 1920s took monastic vows, became a bishop. Despite the conflict with the Soviet government, numerous references and arrests, in 1946, was awarded the Stalin Prize of the 1st degree for his services in medicine and in the same year he was appointed archbishop of Simferopol and the Crimea. The prelate, suffering from a serious eye disease, took the sick, advised in a military hospital, lectured at the medical school, served in the churches, was engaged in the restoration of churches in the Crimea. He died June 11, 1961, he was ranked to the rank of saints in 2000.
At the event in the Presidential Library on May 31, such topical issues as interaction of society, state and church at the present stage will be discussed; Christian education and psychology; conjugation of science and religion through ethical, moral, worldview aspects of the heritage of St. Luke.
Representatives of the Society of Orthodox Physicians of St. Petersburg named after St. Luke, honored doctors, scientists and teachers will take part in the discussion.
The event will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library portal and in the official group of the Presidential Library in the social network “Vkontakte”.
