Music of the epoch of Alexander II to be performed at the Presidential Library

10 October 2018

The concert of the “Music of Russian Statehood” Musical and Educational Project highlighting the epoch of tsar and reformer Alexander II will be held on October 10, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Presidential Library (Senate Square, 3).

Alexander II, who had ruled for 26 years, implemented reforms in all spheres of the state and social life, including culture. The foundation of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg (it is named after Empress Maria Alexandrovna, the wife of Alexander II) provided a strong impetus to the development of musical culture.

The evening in the Presidential Library will spotlight the momentous pages of musical culture of that time. Fragments from Mikhail Glinka’s opera “A Life for the Tsar”, music from the great ballets staged by Marius Petipa, operas by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky, Giuseppe Verdi, Johann Strauss and other important compositions of Russian and foreign composers of the epoch of Alexander II will be performed as part of the evening.

Nikolay Tsiskaridze, People’s Artist of Russia, Rector of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, will greet the audience as part of the musical evening. The dance of the Vaganova Academy students will represent the beginning of the ballet.

The highlights of the evening will be: the brilliant soprano of Chiara Taigi - the outstanding Italian opera diva, Vatican’s favorite singer and the leading soprano of the La Scala theater, the emotional and deep bass of Hovhannes Nersesyan - the Yerevan Opera Theater soloist, the brilliant performance of pianist Stanislav Solovyov - the prize-winner of international competitions, performances of soloists of Mariinsky Theater, Tavrichesky International Symphony Orchestra of Leningrad Region.
