The Presidential Library to portray the creator of the Periodic table

On February 12, 2019 at 11:00 am the Presidential Library will host the Knowledge of Russia video lecture on “Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev: Man and Scientist” dedicated to the 185th anniversary of the encyclopedic scientist and the 150th anniversary of the Periodic table created by him.

Highlights about the life and work of a physicist, economist, teacher, thinker and statesman will be presented at the lecture hall, which will complement the traditional idea of ​​him. The last years of his academic career, metrological reform and contribution to the formation and development of the State system for ensuring the uniformity of measurements in Russia will be considered.

The event will be attended by well-known scientists and experts. The head of the “Dmitri Mendeleev Museum-Archive” department of the St. Petersburg State University expositions and collections, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Igor Sergeevich Dmitriev, will tell about Mendeleev, his family and the main scientific principles that the scientist has adhered to all his life. The head of the Metrological Museum, Candidate of Historical Sciences Elena Borisovna Ginak will also take part in the lecture hall. Her presentation will be devoted to metrological reform, during which the foundations of the State system for ensuring the uniformity of measurements in Russia were laid, and the scientific metrological center of our country, as well as the Main Chamber of Weights and Measures (now the Dmitri Mendeleev VNIIM) was created.

To participate in the event please pass the electronic registration on the Presidential Library’s portal no later than 1:00 pm February 11, 2019. Entrance to the building of the Presidential Library is carried out strictly upon showing a passport. Participants’ admittance starts at 10:00 am.

The event will be broadcasted live on the institution's portal in the “Live broadcasts” section and in the VKontakte social network official group.
