The Presidential Library to host “Judicial Reform in Russia in 1864: the Past and the Present” International Scientific and Practical Conference

On December 24, 2019, at 11.00 the Presidential Library will host “Judicial Reform in Russia in 1864: the Past and the Present” Scientific and Practical Conference. The event is organized by the A. F. Koni Foundation for the Support and Development of the Historical Heritage.

The conference, timed to the 155th anniversary of the start of the judicial reform of Alexander II, is aimed at integrating and coordinating the efforts of scientists from educational and research organizations, practitioners of various institutes of state power and administration in identifying the historical roots of the Russian state and law, reviving the memory and popularizing Russian jurists. 

The judicial reform of 1864 is an important stage in the development of the judicial system of our country. In addition, the reform laid the foundations of modern criminal and civil proceedings in Russia, as well as the CIS countries, the Baltic states and some states of Eastern Europe. Today, the relevance of this reform lies in the need for a new understanding and continuation of further development of the judicial system of the Russian Federation.

The event will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library’s portal, in the official group on the VKontakte social network and on the institution’s YouTube Channel.

The A. F. Koni Foundation for the Support and Development of the Historical Heritage was created in February 2018 with the aim of reviving the memory of Anatoly Koni, an outstanding Russian man of law and humanist, popularizing other outstanding Russian legal scholars of the past and the present, as well as developing, maintaining educational and legal culture and increasing the prestige of legal professions in the Russian Federation. The founder of the Foundation and its president is Lyudmila Vasilyevna Kuleshova, current state adviser to justice of the 3rd grade, and retired judge-secretary of the St. Petersburg Constitutional Court.

 

Accreditation for media representatives is until 10:00 December 23, 2019.

The letter should include the name, date and place of birth, passport data (series, number, place of registration), a list of carry-on equipment, contact numbers, the name of the media.

We draw media representatives’ attention that it is necessary to forward applications for accreditation and arrive at the event in advance.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is possible only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: media representatives go through entrance № 2; participants and guests of the event go through entrance № 1.
