The activities of teachers during the war years to be discussed at the Presidential Library’s video lecture

On October 6, 2020, at 14:00 Moscow time, a video lecture with international participation will be held at the Presidential Library. The theme is "The feat of a teacher is immortal, like the feat of a soldier": marking the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event is timed to the Teacher's Day, which is celebrated on October 5. The organizers of the video lecture are the Presidential Library, Russian School No. 1 in Marbella (Spain) and the St. Petersburg Academy of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education with the support of the Moscow House of Compatriot.

War is always a tragic page in history. It overturns the usual way of life for a long time. However, even in this difficult period, gaining knowledge has always remained an important aspect. The participants in the video lecture of the Presidential Library will tell about the educational process was built in a wartime.

The event is available to anyone. The meeting will be held remotely and will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in Live broadcasts section in accordance with the live broadcasts of events and on the institution's YouTube channel.

Elena Alexandrova, a member of the Board of the Union of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in Spain, and Spanish "children of war" Asucena Fernandez Fernandez and Victoria Iglesias Martinez will talk about Spanish teachers during the Second World War via video-conferencing mode.

Nelly Murnova, chief specialist of the Moscow House of Compatriot, will make a report “Moscow teacher during the war - teacher and warrior”. The President of the Slavic-Serbian Friendship Society (Belgrade, Serbia) Olga Milunovic will also take part in the video lecture - she will tell about the activities of Serbian teachers in wartime.

The participants of the video lecture will learn about the fate of the teachers of School No. 321, who worked there during the siege of Leningrad, from Irina Kosareva, an honorary worker of general education of the Russian Federation, head of the Museum of the History of School No. 321. Lyudmila Derbilova, Head of the Museum of the St. Petersburg Academy of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education - will tell about the Leningrad Institute for Teacher Training during the years of the siege and the methodological support of Leningrad teachers.

Elena Shepilova, vice-rector for educational work and social development of this university, will tell about the activities of the teachers of the Rostov State University of Railways during the Great Patriotic War.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the major collection "Memory of the Great Victory". It includes official documents, photos and newsreels, newspapers, books, propaganda publications, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of combatants and home front workers, their personal documents, images of military and labor awards, monuments and memorial complexes. Among the materials are recollections of students and teachers about the activities of educational institutions during the war. For example, the article “We take care of Leningrad children like relatives” in the newspaper “Leningradskaya Pravda” 1942, No. 210 (September 4) tells about life in the evacuation of Leningrad kindergartens and schools".
