Multimedia exhibition in the Presidential Library to spotlight the keepers of Russian antiquity

From December 7 until December 21, 2020, the Presidential Library hosts a multimedia exhibition "Ethnoculture of the descendants residing in Trans-Baikal Region", dedicated to the 255th anniversary of the arrival of the first immigrants-Old Believers in Buryatia, as well as timed to the 400th anniversary of Archpriest Avvakum. The exhibition has been prepared by the National Library of the Republic of Buryatia - partner of the Presidential Library.

The culture of the descendants residing in Trans-Baikal Region has been recognized by UNESCO as one of the masterpieces of the World Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Old Believers of Buryatia are real keepers of Russian antiquity. Their folk art is a special, original, not fully explored layer of Russian culture.

The exhibition in the Presidential Library will feature materials reflecting different sides of the history of the resettlement of Old Believers in Buryatia, as well as containing information about the culture and life, economic activities, folklore of the descendants residing in Trans-Baikal Region. Of particular interest are the slides dedicated to the greatest figure of the Old Believers, Archpriest Avvakum, who, in one of the links, spent five years on the territory of Buryatia.
