The Presidential Library to host Arctic Day

The traditional annual conference "Arctic Day at the Presidential Library" will take place on February 26, 2021 in St. Petersburg (Senate Square, 3). The event is held with the organizational support of the St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs.

The conference will start at 10:00 and will be broadcasted live on the library's portal in the Live broadcasts section, in the official group on the VKontakte social network and on the institution's YouTube channel.

Schoolchildren, students, graduate students and cadets of Russian higher and military educational institutions, as well as representatives of organizations involved in the study and development of the Arctic will join the event including via video conference call.

The main task of the Arctic Day at the Presidential Library is to promote Arctic expeditions, scientific research on Arctic topics, to draw attention to the problems of preserving the nature of this northern region and its original culture, as well as to support life in Arctic communities.

The conference will be launched with the plenary session “Overview of Arctic Expeditions in 2020” including the complex expedition of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society and its results.

Further, the Arctic Day in the Presidential Library will follow a cycle of breakout sessions, one of which will be devoted to the history of the development of the Arctic.

At the section "Youth and Arctic" participants will learn about the thematic voyage to the North Pole within the framework of the "Rosatom School" project, about the educational project "On the way to Antarctica: children teach children", as well as about the Arctic Museum, which is located in secondary school № 336 in Nevsky district of St. Petersburg.

Polar pilots and the role of Russian Arctic aviation in the development of the poles of the world will be discussed at the section “Aviation in the Arctic”.

The Arctic Day in the Presidential Library will end with a cinema club meeting accompanying with the film “Arctic. At the End of the Earth".

The letter should contain the full name, date and place of birth, passport data (series, number, place of registration), a list of carry-on equipment, contact phone numbers, the name of the media.

We draw the attention of the media representatives that it is necessary to forward applications for accreditation and arrive at the event in advance.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is mandatory for all attendees.
