The role of the Most Holy Governing Synod in the history of Russian statehood to be spotlighted at the Presidential Library

On November 12, 2021, the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg Theological Academy will hold the Second Scientific Conference "The Most Holy Governing Synod in the History of Russian Statehood". The conference will start at 10:00 at the Presidential Library, located in the historical building of the Synod in St. Petersburg, at 3 Senate Square.

2021 marks the 300th anniversary of the creation of the Most Holy Governing Synod, which played a significant role in the history of the Russian state. The Synod influenced the social, political, spiritual, scientific and educational spheres of Russian life.

The conference "The Holy Synod in the History of Russian Statehood" proposes the following topics for discussion:

●       History of the Most Holy Governing Synod and its structural divisions in St. Petersburg from 1721 to 1918;

●       St. Petersburg Synodal Library and Archives;

●       Educational activities of the Most Holy Governing Synod;

●       Publishing activity of the printing house of the Most Holy Governing Synod;

●       The contribution of church institutions to the development of science;

●       Activities of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society;

●       Orthodox church communities and societies;

●       Chief Procurators and members of the Most Holy Governing Synod;

●       The Most Holy Governing Synod in the system of state institutions of Russia.

The plenary session of the scientific conference, which will last from 10.00 to 12.00, will be broadcast live on the Presidential Library's portal in the Live broadcasts section and on the institution's YouTube channel.

Details of the history of the Most Holy Governing Synod are provided by the Most Holy Governing Synod in the History of Russian Statehood collection. It features unique materials about the interaction of the church hierarchy and secular power over almost two centuries in the history of our Motherland. The history of the Holy Synod is also revealed in the film of the same name, created by the Presidential Library.

Electronic registration of participants is available on the Presidential Library's portal: https://www.prlib.ru/conference. An application for participation in the conference also can be sent to bagrin@prlib.ru no later than October 12, 2021. Applications for participation as listeners are accepted until November 10, 2021. Remote participation via video conference is also possible.

As a result of the event, The Presidential Library will publish a collection of scientific papers, which materials will be included in the Russian Science Citation Index.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is mandatory for all attendees.
