Films, lectures and webinars available online on the Presidential Library’s portal

7–11 March 2022

The Presidential Library’s portal from Monday to Friday in Live broadcasts section provides broadcasting of films, video lectures and tours prepared by the Presidential Library, as well as by leading film studios of the country.

In accordance with the broadcast program, on the eve and on International Women's Day, the Presidential Library's portal will show all three parts of the popular science film "German Princesses - Russian Fates ...", filmed at the Lennauchfilm studio. The first film tells how Catherine the Great appeared on the Russian throne - the first German princess Sophia Anhalt of Zerbst, whom Empress Elizaveta Petrovna chose to marry her nephew Peter III. The second film tells about the fate of three German princesses. Maria Feodorovna, wife of Paul I, nee Princess Sophia Dorothea Augusta Louise of Württemberg, gave birth to ten children, among them two future monarchs. Her first-born, the future Emperor Alexander I, was chosen by Catherine the Great herself, Princess Louise Maria Augusta of Baden (in Orthodoxy, Elizabeth Alekseevna). Empress Maria Feodorovna married the beloved son of Nicholas I to Princess Frederick Louise Charlotte Wilhelmina of Prussia (Alexandra Feodorovna), who became the second "I" of the future emperor. The heroines of the third part of the film were Alexandra Feodorovna, her daughter-in-law - Princess Maximilian Wilhelmina Augusta Sophia Maria of Hesse, in Orthodoxy Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Alexander II and, finally, Alexandra Feodorovna, nee Victoria Alisa Elena Louisa Beatrice of Hesse-Darmstadt - the last Russian Empress, whose fate forever remain in world history.

In honor of the 88th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Gagarin, which is celebrated on March 9, a video lecture “106 minutes of Yuri Gagarin: declassified details of the first space flight” is offered to the attention of users online.

“Digital Space of the State Archives of St. Petersburg” was the title of one of the reports of the scientific and practical conference “Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Space”, held at the Presidential Library. The video recording of the speech is available on the institution's portal.

A video recording of the information and methodological webinar "Theater in Russia" will also be broadcast. A review of sources about the Russian theater in the Presidential Library’s collections includes historical essays, scientific works by historians and theater critics, archival files from the collection of the Directorate of Imperial Theaters, theater repertoires of different years, theater magazines, as well as video lectures by cultural figures, photographs of artists, scenery and theater buildings.
