Arctic on behalf of eyewitnesses

22 March 2022

On March 22, 2022 at 16:00 the Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting will host the premiere of the popular-science film "The Verbal Memory of the Arctic". The film is directed by Kristina Ivanova and Nikolai Letunovsky.

This film is the result of a large project of recording oral histories told by famous Russian polar explorers. Among them are those who personally took part in the study and development of the Arctic: captains, participants in maritime navigation, travelers and promoters of Polar Regions. Thus, an experienced traveler Viktor Boyarsky introduces the audience of the film to the fascinating details of the international research expeditions to the Arctic. Nuclear-powered icebreaker captains Dmitry Lobusov and Alexander Skryabin tell about the difficulties of working on the Northern Sea Route, and the chief specialist of the Center for Ice and Hydrometeorological Information of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute Vladimir Evseev, who will celebrate his 90th birthday this year, shares his advice with future Arctic explorers.

The film has been prepared by the Marine Heritage Association in cooperation with the media group of the Marine Technical College in St. Petersburg, the research group of the Arctic Museum and Exhibition Center and with the support of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, as well as the Presidential Grants Foundation. The head of “The Verbal Memory of the Arctic” project is Pavel Filin.
