The Presidential Library to host the premiere screening of the film "Sea cadets from Valaam Island"
On March 29, 2022 at 16:00 the Presidential Library will host the premiere of the documentary film "Sea cadets from Valaam Island", prepared jointly by the Presidential Library and the Northern Ladoga Regional Museum. The film is directed by Tatyana Dyakonova.
The film is dedicated to the feat of young students in the bloody battles for the Nevsky bridgehead and the crossing of Ladoga along the Road of Life in 1941-1942. The cadets and the ship boys of the boatswain school received their baptism of fire on the night of September 27, 1941. Crossing the Neva in the area of Nevskaya Dubrovka as part of the 1st separate rifle company of the 3rd battalion of the 4th naval brigade, they came under heavy enemy fire. The cabin boys went on the attack eight times a day along with the sailors. Each time, before the next battle, the boys, with their hands numb from fatigue, pulled peakless caps over their heads, which they did not part with and kept with them as a symbol of naval prowess and courage.
The Presidential Library’s film once again reminds of the heroism of the Valaam young people who took part in the approach of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad and emphasizes the continuity of the glorious maritime traditions.
