Temples of the Russian North exhibited at the Presidential Library

22 March – 11 April 2022

From March 22 to April 11, 2022 a photo exhibition dedicated to the unique culture of the Russian North is open at the Presidential Library.

Ancient artifacts of the Slavic culture of the pre-Christian period are best preserved in this territory. The masterpieces of the Russian North - the aesthetic achievements of the architects of Ancient Russia and the originality of their creations - are still insufficiently known and appreciated. The more important is the task of researchers, ethnographers and photographers - to study, capture and show the world all the greatness and originality of these works of art.

One of these guides to the world of the Russian North was Alexander Dymnikov, chairman of the Union of Photographers of St. Petersburg, whose photo exhibition "Temples of the Russian North" is presented in the Presidential Library. The exhibition features photographs taken by the author during expeditions to Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod Regions and Republic of Karelia.

The idea of the photo project is to show the greatness and relevance of the religious architecture of the north of Russia.

The surviving unique temples of distant antiquity are a complex and multi-layered image, not only including features typical of the time of construction, but also retaining a continuous aesthetic connection with the culture of previous centuries, and possibly millennia.
