The Presidential Library features events for the anniversary XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum
The Presidential Library of the Administrative Department of the President of the Russian Federation traditionally hosts participants and guests of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) which is held from 15-18 June 2022.
As part of the SPIEF cultural program, guests and participants of the forum, as well as accredited representatives of the media, will have the opportunity to visit the historic building of the Synod on Senate Square, 3, take part in film screenings, see the performance of the State Kremlin Orchestra and opera soloists from leading Russian theaters.
During the tours, which are held daily from June 14-19 inclusive, visitors will be told about the history and architectural features of the Synod building, built in the second quarter of the 19th century by the outstanding architect Carlo Rossi. Guests will learn about the main activities of the Presidential Library, which is Russia's largest nationwide electronic repository of digital copies of the most important documents on the history of Russian statehood, as well as a multifunctional cultural, educational, scientific, information and analytical center that has the status of the National Library of Russia.
In the electronic reading room, visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the resources of the Presidential Library, the formation of its collections, and its digitized materials. The plasma panels of the reading room will display documents from the electronic collections: “Russian State and the Economy of Russia”, “Peter I (1672-1725)”, “World War II in archival documents (collection of digitized archival documents, film and photo materials”.
Visitors will see the restored interiors of the Holy Synod, see the conference hall and the transforming multimedia hall, created for holding all-Russian and international events, equipped with modern technical equipment.
Tourists will visit two exhibitions at once, dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great, and learn how the emperor's reforms transformed Russia, influenced the development of industry, shipbuilding, construction, trade and science.
The new electronic exhibition project "Peter’s Petersburg - the economic center of the Russian state" will be presented on the plasma panels of the multimedia gallery. Based on the Presidential Library’s collections it reveals the history of the economic development of Peter’s St. Petersburg in conjunction with the country's economy. During the SPIEF days guests of St. Petersburg will be able to learn about this project at the Forum site.
A number of agreements is planned to be signed within SPIEF: with Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in Ural Federal District, Heraldic Council of the President of the Russian Federation, National Research University Higher School of Economics, National Research Institute of Communication Development, and National Library of Uzbekistan.
The presentation of the photo album “S. M. Prokudin-Gorsky. Central Russia”, the signing of the agreement on the transfer of the publication rights of the album in the collections of the Presidential Library with the participation of Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in Central Federal District, as well as the handover ceremony of the book “Atomic Management of USSR” from the author Andrey Andreyevich Sizov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LOESK, to the collections of the Presidential Library will also take place during the forum.
On June 16, 2022 at 16:30 the opening ceremony of the remote access center to the resources of the Presidential Library based on the Russian House in Cairo will take place, and at 17:00, as part of the cultural program of the SPIEF in the multimedia hall of the Presidential Library, a documentary dedicated to Egypt, the guest country of the Forum, will be shown and discussed. The film Chronicles of the Nubian Expedition (2021), created with the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation, shows a significant period in the history of Russian archeology, the beginning of the era of Soviet and then Russian complex expeditions to the countries of the Middle East, tells about the first expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which in 1961-1963 worked in Egypt. It was a great archaeological campaign that played a major role in the history of science.
History through the prism of music will be presented at the Presidential Library on June 16 at 19:00 as part of a concert featuring the State Kremlin Orchestra. Honored artists of Russia, soloists of leading theaters of the country, laureates of international contests will perform musical works by R. M. Glier, N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, M. P. Mussorgsky, P. I. Tchaikovsky, S. S. Prokofiev, J. Verdi, J. Bizet, J. Rossini, E. Lloyd-Webber and other famous composers.
On June 17 at 16:30 the Presidential Library provides the screening and discussion of documentaries about St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region from the Silver Ring of Russia series (2021). The main goal of the Petersburg Diary video project is to show the beauty and tourism opportunities of 11 regions of the North-West from Kaliningrad to Murmansk Region. The films tell about unique regional monuments of history and culture, as well as natural sites, including those included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On June 18 at 15:00 the Presidential Library's program of film screenings about Egypt will be supplemented by a demonstration of the documentary "Egypt on the banks of the Neva" (2005) directed by Nadezhda Danina. The historical storyline of the film is dedicated to comparing the fates of two reformers on the throne: the Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep IV and the Russian emperor Peter I. Despite the 3,000 years separating them, the author finds similarities in the reforms carried out by the rulers. Mysterious stories surround both Egyptian monuments and sculptures of St. Petersburg: the sphinxes on the Neva embankment, the "Fountain of Witches" on the Pulkovo Highway, the Egyptian Gate in Tsarskoye Selo.
On the same day at 17:00 the documentaries about St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region from the Silver Ring of Russia series (2021) will be shown in the multimedia hall of the Presidential Library.
At the forum the Presidential Library’s portal will also have an opportunity to learn about the updated collection of book publications and archival materials The Russian State and Economy numbering about 800 depository items. The collection includes studies and documents on the economy of our country since the time of Ancient Russia. They spotlight the development of domestic and foreign trade, the peculiarities of the agrarian and industrial development of Russia, the activities of state bodies in the field of economics and finance, changes in the economic life of the Soviet era, including during the Great Patriotic War, as well as the current state of the Russian economy.
