Film screening at the Presidential Library to be dedicated to Egypt, the guest country of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

On June 16, 2022 at 17:00 Moscow time the Presidential Library will host a film screening and discussion of the documentary film Chronicles of the Nubian Expedition.

The event will be held as part of the cultural program of the anniversary XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and will be dedicated to Egypt, the Forum’s guest country in 2022.

The film Chronicles of the Nubian Expedition was created in 2021 with the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation. The director and scriptwriter was Dmitry Zavilgelsky. The film illustrates a significant period in the history of Russian archeology, the beginning of the era of Soviet and then Russian complex expeditions to the countries of the Middle East. The film spotlights the first expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which was opened in Egypt in 1961-1963. It was a great archaeological campaign that played a significant role in the history of science. In the film, the children of archaeologists, members of the expedition, share their memories and personal archives: M. B. Piotrovsky, E. A. Vinogradova, M. L. Petrova, A. O. Bolshakov.

The Scientific Adviser of the film, Alexei Krol, will tell the guests of the film screening about the continuation of the archaeological research of the Nubian expedition, which began 60 years ago, as well as about the excavations that are currently underway by the Research Institute of Anthropology of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The event participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to the authors of the film and to receive comments from reputable scientists.

We draw the attention of the media representatives that it is necessary to forward applications for accreditation and arrive at the event in advance.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is mandatory for all attendees.
