The Presidential Library invites schoolchildren and students to join the Interactive Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World”

21 September 2022 – 17 March 2023

The Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World” in individual subjects, such as history, social studies and Russian language, takes place from September 21, 2022 to March 17, 2023. High school pupils and students mastering the educational programs of secondary vocational education in arts from Russia and foreign countries are invited to participate in the event.

Within the Olympiad, students will have an opportunity to test their knowledge in each of the disciplines or to choose only one subject of their liking. The overall results of the competition will be based on the individual results of participants. Winners will be awarded diplomas.

The competition consists of three mandatory stages. The first and the second stages will be organized through the remote knowledge testing system from September 21 to November 30, 2022 and from December 20, 2022 to January 20, 2023, respectively. The final stage will be held offline on March 15-17, 2023. Finalists from St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region will meet at the Senate Square, 3, and participants from other cities – at the regional sites of the institution’s remote electronic reading rooms.

Tasks of the Olympiad are based on the materials from the Presidential Library’s collections. Therefore, exploring resources on the institution’s official portal can help students to answer the questions of the Olympiad as accurately as possible. Participants can also try their hand in tasks from previous years, available on the project’s website in the Archive section.

The main goal of the competition is to introduce students to working with archival information sources on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood, as the Presidential Library’s electronic collections contain over a million of digitized copies of rare documents which present the cultural heritage of the country. The event aims at finding and supporting young talents, popularizing humanitarian knowledge among young people.

The Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World” has been created by the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg University of Economics. Co-organizers of the event are the Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University and the Southwest State University.

Last year, over 3,000 schoolchildren and students from 66 regions of Russia and 9 foreign countries took part in the event. During the long existence of the interactive educational project – since 2010, about 52,000 people gave it a try, many of whom later enrolled in leading Russian universities.

Registration of the Olympiad’s participants will be open until September 21, 2022 on the official website of the interactive educational project. More information on the event is available at http://olympiada.prlib.ru/. It is also possible to contact the Scientific and Educational Department of the Presidential Library: (812) 305-16-51, olympiada@prlib.ru.

The Presidential Library regularly hosts competitions and olympiads for schoolchildren and students of secondary vocational education institutions. For example, the acceptance of works for the essay competition “My Peter I”, organized jointly with the Kostyor magazine, is currently ongoing.
