Issues of preserving the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia to be discussed at the Presidential Library

On October 5, 2022 at 14:00 Moscow time the Presidential Library will host the round table “Preservation of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Digital Environment”. The event will take place within the framework of the XIII Scientific and Practical Conference “Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Space”.

The event will focus on the cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia – the source of moral and aesthetic education, identity of Russians.

Participants will discuss the role of cultural institutions in the preservation, study and popularization of cultural heritage. Special attention will be paid to digital, information and educational, cultural projects marking the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.

The joint project of the Research Archive of the Russian Geographical Society and the Presidential Library for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage will also be discussed within the framework of the round table. Participants will talk over the Presidential Library’s electronic exhibitions and the representation of cultural heritage in the digital environment.

In addition, the issues of the creation of a comprehensive digital environment will be considered. Participants will also touch upon the role of cinematic heritage in the digital age.

The Presidential Library’s electronic collections contain a great number of materials, dedicated to folk culture – research papers, folklore compilations, video films. For example, they include such publications as Russian Common Holidays and Superstitious Rites (1837) and Songs collected by P. V. Kireevsky (1860). The Presidential Library also produces documentaries about traditions, customs and art of numerous peoples of Russia. Thus, the film Hive tells about the residents of the Malakhovo village of Bryansk Region – their customs and traditional crafts. All these and many other materials are available on the Presidential Library’s portal, allowing everyone to explore the treasury of the country’s folk culture.

The events of the XIII Scientific and Practical Conference “Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Space” will take place on October 3-5, 2022 at the Fyodorov Kuzbass State Research Library in Kemerovo and the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg.

The organizers of the event are the Presidential Library, Federal Archival Agency, Union of Museums of Russia, Russian Library Association, Ministry of Culture and National Policy of Kuzbass, Ministry of Culture of Kemerovo Region, Fyodorov Kuzbass State Research Library.

The round table “Preservation of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Digital Environment” will be broadcast on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live broadcasts section in accordance with the program, as well as on the Rutube- and Telegram-channel of the institution. The event is planned to be broadcast live in the social network VKontakte.

Accreditation of media representatives for the round table “Preservation of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Digital Environment” is until 12:00 September 30, 2022.

The letter should contain the full name, date and place of birth, passport data (series, number, place of registration), a list of carry-on equipment, contact phone numbers, the name of the media.

We draw the attention of the media representatives that it is necessary to forward applications for accreditation and arrive at the event in advance.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is recommended for all attendees.
