The Presidential Library presents the exhibition "My Peter I" dedicated to the contest of school essays

12 December 2022 – 15 January 2023

From December 12, 2022 to January 15, 2023 the Presidential Library is hosting an exhibition of illustrations by the famous St. Petersburg graphic artist Elena Erhardt for an essay by participants in the All-Russian school contest “My Peter I”, dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the first Russian emperor.

A similar exhibition was already held at the Presidential Library in May and caused a lot of positive feedback. The updated and expanded exposition creates a special atmosphere of artistic comprehension of the most important events in the life of the reformer tsar, immersion in the historical context of the Petrine era.

The artist stylistically combined illustrations with the image of a popular print. The simplicity and accessibility of images of this kind, from the Fryazh sheets in the 16th century to the engravings of the early 20th century, has always attracted the Russian people. Lubok could be found in a peasant's hut, and in a monastery, and in the royal chambers. Tsarevich Peter had about a hundred of them. Later, in 1711, the emperor founded a special engraving chamber in St. Petersburg. But it all started with those first simple pictures - the prototypes of textbooks, newspapers, calendars and even...comics.

The opening of the exhibition was timed to the solemn ceremony of awarding the winners and laureates of the essay contest "My Peter I". This is a joint project of the library, the Kostyor All-Russian literary and artistic magazine for schoolchildren and the World Club of Petersburgers.
