New films to be broadcast on the Presidential Library’s portal on the eve of the New Year
The films and video lectures prepared by the Presidential Library, as well as the country's leading film studios, are now broadcast around the clock on the Presidential Library’s portal. On the eve of the New Year, viewers have an opportunity to see films created by the library in recent years.
The Memorial Library of Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov in Alupka is a unique historical monument. It has been formed for generations and contains over ten thousand books. Almost all branches of science and knowledge are represented here – history, geography, military affairs, agriculture, numerous dictionaries, reference books and encyclopedias, periodicals. The Presidential Library’s film “The M. S. Vorontsov Memorial Library: What is hidden behind the spines of the books of the Vorontsov Palace” tells about this unique collection of books, as well as about the cooperation of the Alupka Museum-Reserve with the Presidential Library to digitize the unique book collection of the Vorontsov Library.
Another film of the Presidential Library “Saved Frescoes. Church of St. Nicholas on Lipno” tells about the unique architectural monument of Novgorod of the XIII century. The construction of the temple began in 1292 by order of the Novgorod Archbishop Clement. The main altar was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the chapel – in the name of St. Clement. According to legend, an icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which healed Vladimir Monomakh's son, Prince Mstislav Vladimirovich of Novgorod, the future Grand Prince of Kiev, was found in this place in 1113.
Also, in accordance with the broadcast program from December 26 to 31, 2022, films created as part of the large-scale project “Presidential Chronicle”, which is carried out by the Presidential Library in cooperation with the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, will be shown online. Users will learn about the ceremonial residence of the President of Russia, the Grand Kremlin Palace, as a unique monument of architecture and history. Presidential inauguration ceremonies are held there, state awards are presented, important negotiations and meetings are held. Also, thanks to the Presidential Library’s films, one has an opportunity to learn about the symbols of presidential power – the Standard and the Sign of the President of the Russian Federation; visit the personal library of the head of state – the Library of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, as well as the Archive of the President of the Russian Federation; get an idea of the activities of the Presidential Directorate for Correspondence and the three-level system of the Reception Office of the President of the Russian Federation (reception offices in the centers of federal districts and in the subjects of Russia, electronic reception terminals).
On the anniversary of the Decembrist Revolt, on December 26 (14 old style), the Presidential Library will present the film “1825. Reflecting on the Fate of Russia”. The documentary tells about the socio-political structure of Russia in the first quarter of the XIX century, the prerequisites, causes and course of the Decembrist Revolt in 1825, its influence on the development of socio-political thought in Russia.
On the same day, the Presidential Library offers to remember Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, among whose friends were those who came out on December 14, 1825 to Senate Square. Thanks to the broadcast of the documentary “..my address: on the Moika, near the Konyushenny Bridge…”, users will have a chance to visit the famous house on Moika, 12 without leaving their home, to learn about the daily affairs of Alexander Pushkin, his family, friends, about relations with Vasily Zhukovsky and about the last days of the classic of Russian literature.
The Presidential Library's film “Foreign Words in the Poetry of A. S. Pushkin” explores foreign borrowings in the Russian language. Why did Tatiana write her letter in French, and what “wild state” of the Russian language is Pushkin talking about to Vyazemsky? How was the modern Russian language formed and what role did Pushkin play in this? The video is distinguished by its consonance with the modern situation – an abundance of borrowings from the English language.
Another film of the Presidential Library, “Russian Fleet by the American Coasts”, is dedicated to the expedition of Russian sailors to North America in 1863-1864, which became one of the most vivid pages in the history of relations between the two countries. The campaign solved the most important task – the armed action of the coalition of European states against Russia was thwarted. In addition, the Russian fleet made a significant contribution to the turning point in the civil war of the North and South, largely determining the victory of Abraham Lincoln.
On December 31, the documentary “In Search of the Lost Post Office” will be shown on the Presidential Library’s port. The film adaptation of the famous children's poem “Post Office” by Samuel Marshak was released in 1929, arousing interest all over the world. Already in 1930, the artist and director Mikhail Tsekhanovsky released a new, voiced version of “Post Office”, which became the first Soviet sound cartoon. By the end of the 1950s, this version was considered lost. The plot of the film “In Search of the Lost Post Office” was the search for the sound version of the cartoon.
Also on the last day of the year, thanks to the broadcast of the film “The Story of the Valdai Bell with digressions into the world and domestic history of bells”, users will be able to learn about the technology of bell casting, hear the chime of the famous Valdai bells and learn about their impact on humans.
A video recording of a concert with the participation of the State Kremlin Orchestra of the Administrative Directorate of the Russian Federation will conclude the television pre-holiday program. The musical works of Glière, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Verdi, Bizet, Rossini and other famous composers will be performed by Honoured Artists of Russia, soloists of the country's leading theatres, laureates of international competitions. All performances are united by the theme of Russian statehood, the history of our country.
