Documentaries and eyewitness memories about the siege of Leningrad to be shown on the Presidential Library’s portal

16–21 January 2023

During the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad, in accordance with the online broadcast program, the documentary film "Marshal of Victory Govorov" dedicated to the hero of the Soviet Union, who was often called "our Leningrad Marshal" will be shown. From June 1942 until the end of the war, Mikhail Alexandrovich Govorov was the commander of the troops of the Leningrad Front, led operations to break through, and then to completely lift the siege of Leningrad. This legendary man participated in the Civil, Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars, having gone from a junior officer of a mortar battery to a Marshal of the Soviet Union. The film directed by Vyacheslav Serkez took place in places associated with the life of Govorov. The film group visited the homeland of Mikhail Alexandrovich - in the village of Butyrki, Kirov Region, met with people who keep the memory of the marshal in Yelabuga, Simferopol, Vyborg, Moscow and other cities.

The theme of the defence of Leningrad will be continued by the screening of the film of the Presidential Library "Сabin boys from the island of Valaam". In 1940, a naval boatswain school was established on the island of Valaam, where there was a company that recruited teenagers aged 15–17. This is how the first Jung company in the history of the USSR appeared. Cabin boys took part in the battles on the bridgehead "Nevsky Piglet" and in the defence of the crossing over Ladoga along the Road of Life in 1941-1942. The film names the heroes and tells about their feat.

Also during the week from January 16 to January 21, users will have an opportunity to learn about Ninel Viktorovna Krasnolutskaya and Zinaida Arkadyevna Fedyushina, who survived all the terrible 900 days of blockade in the besieged city as children. Video recordings of the interview will be shown online.
