Declassified chronicles of the Great Patriotic War of the second half of 1943 to be the focus of a conference at the Presidential Library

On June 20, 2023, at 10:00, the VI Scientific and Educational Conference dedicated to the participation of the USSR Navy in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will be held in the Presidential Library.

The theme of the conference covers the events of the Great Patriotic War from July to December 1943. Speeches will be made on the activities of the People’s Commissar of the USSR Navy Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov during this period, the Novorossiysk amphibious operation, the actions of the Black Sea Fleet forces during the liberation of the Taman Peninsula, the role of the marines, the combat actions of naval aviation of the Navy at the stage of a radical turning point in the Great Patriotic War, and other important historical topics.

The event will be the sixth in the framework of the scientific and educational program Preserving the Truth About the War: Chronicle of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 at Sea. The program operating until September 3, 2025 – the date of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II – is based on the materials of the declassified military historical work The Soviet Navy during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, created on the initiative of the People’s Commissar of the USSR Navy during the war, Admiral Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov.

The conference is co-organized by the regional public organization of admirals and generals of the Navy “Admirals Club”, Admiralty Coordinating Council of Public Veteran Organizations of the Navy, Victory Museum (Moscow).

Representatives of the administration of St. Petersburg, the General Staff of the Russian Navy, maritime educational, historical and cultural institutions are planning to take part in the event. Cadets and students of maritime educational institutions of Russia, as well as their mentors, are also invited to participate in the conference.

Anyone can join the event, which will be held in a face-to-face and remote format. The conference will be broadcast on the Presidential Library’s portal in the Live Broadcasts section in accordance with the program, on the institution’s Rutube channel, as well as on the VKontakte social network page.

The Presidential Library pays great attention to the history and achievements of the Russian navy. The electronic collections of the institution store a great number of archival documents and materials related to this topic. The annual holding of such large-scale events as Cadet Day and Naval Knowledge Day at the Presidential Library has already become a tradition. In addition, video lectures and exhibitions are regularly held, telling about the creation of the Russian fleet and its role in the history of the country.

Entrance to the Presidential Library for media representatives is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport – through entrance № 2.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is advised for all attendees.
