Exhibition about famous industrialist Nikolai Vtorov presented in Reserve Center of Presidential Library

The exhibition dedicated to Nikolai Vtorov, a prominent industrialist and philanthropist who founded the city of Elektrostal, is presented at the Reserve Center of the Presidential Library on July 18, 2024. The event takes place at the following address: Moscow, Slavyanskaya pl., 4, building 1.

Nikolai Vtorov's contribution to the development of the area is reflected in the building of the Business Courtyard, which was constructed on Varvarskaya Square. This building currently houses the Reserve Center of the Presidential Library.

Organized by the Presidential Library in collaboration with the Museum and Exhibition Center of Elektrostal, the exhibition showcases archival photographs, documents, and reproductions from a personal archive belonging to a descendant of the Vtorov family residing in France.

Vtorovs were the people who invested money in large financial institutions and knowledge-intensive industries. Their capital was comparable to that of large entrepreneurs, such as the Shchukins, Ryabushinskys and Morozovs families.

Nikolai Vtorov was the head of the Siberian Commercial Bank and the owner of the Moscow Industrial Bank. He also owned the Russian company Koksobenzol, and had his hands on some of the biggest domestic industrial companies, such as the Bryansk Plant and the Donetsk-Yuriev Metallurgical Society.

In 1911, Nikolai Vtorov invested a significant amount of money in the construction of the Business Courtyard on Varvarskaya Square, which was designed by the renowned architect Ivan Kuznetsov and completed shortly thereafter.

Prior to the outbreak of World War I, Vtorov partnered with the Knop brothers to establish the "Association of Domestic and Import Trade." Despite the war, the Vtorovs family continued to thrive, becoming instrumental in the creation of large-scale enterprises involved in the production of chemicals, cement, and military supplies.

In 1916, Nikolai established two major military enterprises in Bogorodsky District, near the Zatiche Tract (now part of the industrial city of Elektrostal). These facilities included the Bogorodsky Equipment Plant and Elektrostal Metallurgical Works.
