Presidential Library hosts video lecture in format of round table: "from the "great decade" to the period of "developed socialism"

A round table organized in collaboration with the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is a long-standing partner of the Presidential Library, will take place at the Presidential Library on October 18, 2024, at 11:00 Moscow time, as part of the video lecture series Knowledge of Russia.

The event will review the results of the international scientific conference From the 'great Decade' to the period of 'developed socialism': marking 60th anniversary of the October Plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1964. The following topics will be discussed:

- Domestic politics: communism and consumerism
- Foreign policy: conflicts of the Cold War and détente
- Science, culture, and leisure: new spaces for the Soviet citizen

The participants of the meeting, along with scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Novosibirsk, will discuss an important stage in Soviet history and have the opportunity to ask questions. The library will host a video lecture in the form of a roundtable discussion on the topic From the 'Great Decade' to the Period of 'Developed Socialism'.

The following specialists are invited to participate in the round table discussion:

- Elena Zubkova, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Chief Researcher at the Center for Social History of Russia, Institute of Russian History, Russian Academy of Sciences.
- Vitaly Tikhonov, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Freelance Researcher at the same institute.
- Andrey Savin, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Senior Researcher with a focus on socio-political development at the Institute of History, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences.
- Kirill Boldovsky, another Candidate of Historical Sciences who is a Senior Researcher in the Department of Modern Russian History at the St. Petersburg Institute of History.
- Alexander Chistikov, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Leading Researcher, currently Acting Head of the Department of Modern Russian History at the St. Petersburg Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The event is available for everyone. The meeting will be broadcasted on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live Broadcasts section, as well as on the Rutube-channel of the Library, on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.
