Presidential Library's video lecture tells about ostyaks and voguls

On December 23rd, 2024 at 15:00 by Moscow time, the Presidential Library will host an event dedicated to the Khanty and Mansi people as part of the Knowledge of Russia video lecture series.

Maria Meshalkina, an art historian, ethnographer, and expert on rock art at the Presidential Library, will speak about the indigenous peoples of the Urals and Western Siberia - the Ostyaks (Khanty) and Voguls (Mansi). The Khanty and Mansi are a small indigenous group living in the North, mostly in the traditional way of life in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra.

During the lecture, their culture and that of their ancestors will be discussed, based on archaeological findings, ethnographic materials, and expedition reports.

The event is available for everyone. The meeting will be broadcasted on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live Broadcasts section, as well as on the Rutube-channel of the Library, on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.

The Presidential Library's portal presents the online project Centuries-Old Yugra, which is dedicated to the exhibition of the same name that is currently on display in the halls of the Presidential Library.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.
