Historian Yuri Krivosheev to speak as part of video lecture "Knowledge of Russia" at Presidential Library

On February 17th, 2025 at 15:00 Moscow time, there a lecture will be given by Yuri Krivosheev, a Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, and head of the Department of Historical Regional Studies at St. Petersburg State University. The lecture will take place at the Presidential Library and will be part of the video lecture series Knowledge of Russia.

The lecture will focus on the scientific and literary work of Yuri Krivosheev and is titled Historian Yuri Krivosheev: Reflections on the Motherland. The range of his research is incredibly broad, spanning from the 11th century to the present day. His works cover a variety of genres, from scientific monographs to collections of eyewitness accounts.

The scientist's frequent references to the historical past are a reflection of modern Russian culture and reveal its deep meanings through dialogue with Russia's experience and heritage. Over the years, Yuri Vladimirovich Krivosheev has published more than 300 studies on various topics, including the military history of Russia, the lives of historical figures such as Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh, the development of Russian Orthodox Christianity, and controversial aspects of medieval Russian politics.

In addition, Yuri Vladimirovich has established himself as a talented writer. His works are united by a sincere love for Russia and can serve as a guide to spiritual and moral values for the younger generation in the modern world. In 2024, he published a collection of short stories titled "The Poppies of Chersonesos," which includes references to recent events in the Donbas region.

For more than 10 years, the historian has collaborated with the Presidential Library in various capacities. The library's collection includes the Proceedings of the First All-Russian Congress of Regional Historians, which were held in St. Petersburg in October 2007. These proceedings were organized by Yuri V. Krivosheev, a renowned historian and expert on regional history. The conference was held at St. Petersburg State University.

Yuri V. Krivosheev also contributed to the library's digital collection with his lecture on Vladimir Monomakh. This lecture is available online for all interested parties to access and learn from.

As part of the Knowledge of Russia video lecture, Yu. Krivosheev has donated his books to the Presidential Library, which were written between 2000 and 2024.

Yuri Vladimirovich is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Marshal Meretskov Literary Prize, the Saint Petersburg State University Award for Scientific Works, and the White Eagle Award from the Russian Film Guild. He is also the chief editor of the Russian Library series published by the Nauka publishing house.

Additionally, the lecturer has been recognized with an honorary certificate from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for his many years of dedicated service to the advancement of education and training of skilled professionals.
