Take part in Librarians – Soldiers of Victory project with Presidential Library
On April 24th, 2025, at 13:30 in the Presidential Library, as part of the Third Annual Scientific and Practical Conference Promoting National Cultural Heritage in the Digital Environment: The Contribution of Cultural Institutions to the Formation of a Reliable Memory of the Great Victory, a roundtable will be held. At this event, the official launch of the Librarians - Soldiers of Victory digital project will take place.
This project was initiated by the Presidential Library on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, with the aim of preserving the memory of the heroic deeds of Soviet librarians during the war.
From the very beginning of the Great Patriotic War, libraries were on the front lines of the ideological struggle, and they continued to operate in difficult conditions. Many library workers left their peaceful professions - some were drafted into the Red Army, others went to the front as volunteers, and still others joined national militia units. Not all of them returned from the battlefield, but their names and their unparalleled courage will remain in our memory forever.
Libraries preserve the memory of their heroes by carefully collecting information and publishing books and stories about them in periodicals and online resources. These stories are about those who went to the front and never returned, those who survived and returned victorious, and those who came to libraries in the post-war years as veterans.
As part of a project, an electronic collection called Librarians - Soldiers of Victory is being created. This collection will collect and combine historically reliable information about librarians who served in military operations during the Great Patriotic War and worked in libraries before and after the war in the Russian Federation and other countries.
The collection is expected to include articles about participants of the Great Patriotic War, which have been prepared for the project according to a specially designed format, as well as photographs of the heroes. In addition, the collection will contain links to relevant online resources that can be found on the websites of libraries that are participating in the project.
The implementation of the project aims to preserve the memory of the heroic feat of the people of Russia and to provide reliable information about their past to future generations. The project will allow us to gather and share information about those who sacrificed their lives for a peaceful future.
The five-year project is scheduled for completion in 2030, the 85th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Libraries of various levels and affiliations, both in Russia and other countries, are invited to join the project.
