Conference on role of USSR Navy in Great Victory to be held in Presidential Library

On 8 April 2025 at 10:00 the Presidential Library will host a scientific and educational conference The People's Commissariat of the Navy and Navy Commissar N. G. Kuznetsov in the Great Patriotic War: January - May 1945.

The event is held within the framework of the project Preserving the Truth about the War. The project, which is being implemented until 3 September 2025 - the date of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, is based on the materials of the declassified military-historical work "The Soviet Navy during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", created on the initiative of Admiral Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov, Commissar of the USSR Navy during the war.

The project is released by the Main Command of the Navy with the participation of the Presidential Library, the Regional Public Organisation of Admirals and Generals of the Navy of St. Petersburg "Admirals Club", the Victory Museum (Moscow), the Admiralty Coordination Council of Veterans' Public Organisations of the Navy, the State Budgetary Educational Institution "Naval Lyceum" of the Primorsky District of St. Petersburg.

The theme of the conference covers the military events connected with the participation of fleets and flotillas from January to May 1945. There will be speeches devoted to the role of Navy Commissar Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov in the victory over the Nazi invaders in the war at sea, the Dnepropetrovsk Flotilla, the Danube Military Flotilla, the actions of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet at the beginning of the victorious year 1945, the liberation of the island of Bornholm, the role of sailors in the storming of Berlin and other topics.

The event is available for everyone. The meeting will be broadcasted on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live Broadcasts section, as well as on the Rutube-channel of the Library, on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.

The Presidential Library pays great attention to the history and achievements of the Russian Navy. The institution's electronic collection contains many archival documents and materials related to this topic. It has become an annual tradition to hold such large-scale events as Cadet Day and the Day of Naval Knowledge at the Presidential Library. In addition, video lectures and exhibitions telling about the creation of the Russian Navy and its role in the country's history are regularly organised.
