Urgent questions of copyright to be discussed in the Presidential Library

May 23, 2014, as part of the IX St. Petersburg International Book Salon, the Presidential Library will host a round table on "Copyright in the digital age. Legislative Initiatives and Practice." The event is organized by the Presidential Library, Russian Book Union, "Book Industry" magazine. The roundtable will take place from 17.00 to 19.00 at 3, Senate Square.

The meeting will discuss important issues related to the recent amendments to the legal framework on the protection of intellectual property. We recall that at the end of February this year, the State Duma adopted in the third and final reading the amendment package in Part IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. Changes relate to the protection of intellectual property. Amendments shall enter into force on October 1, 2014. What changes await Russian book industry after the entry into force of the bill, does it take into account the interests of publishers, libraries and educational institutions? Does the "anti-piracy" Law № 187- FZ cover literary works? Will the bill strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights in the information and communication networks? These and other relevant questions will be discussed at the round table.

The discussion will bring together directors and employees of publishing houses, libraries, legal community representatives and journalists. Presentations will be made by vice-president of the Russian Book Union , Director General of the publishing houses "EKSMO " and "AST" Oleg Novikov; Russian journalist, head of the new media and communication theory department, journalism faculty, M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Ivan Zassoursky; director of the V. V. Mayakovsky Central City Library, Zoya Chalova; lawyer, patent attorney of the Russian Federation, Vadim Uskov; President of the Russian Library Association, Vladimir Firsov, and others. Moderator of the event will be Svetlana Zorina, chief editor of the "Book Industry."
