Public video lecturing of the Presidential Library discusses the history of railroad communication in Russia
Public video lecturing of the “Knowledge of Russia” cycle focused on the “180th anniversary of the beginning of railroad communication in Russia” will take place in the Presidential Library on December 8, 2017, at 11 am MSK. The event will be aired live on the Presidential Library website.
The rector of the St. Petersburg State University of Communications of Emperor Alexander I Alexander Panichev will tell interesting facts about the history of the origin, formation and the development of railroad communication in Russia. Deputy head of the Oktyabrskaya Railway for personnel and social issues Vladimir Odintsov will also appear speaking in the course of video lecturing.
Among participants of the lecturing will be students of the St. Petersburg State University of Communications of Emperor Alexander I, the St. Petersburg Technical School of Railway Transport, as well as staff employees of the Minor October Railway.
Listeners from Moscow, the Republic of Karelia, Leningrad, Pskov and Tver oblasts plan to join the event in video-conferencing mode.
The electronic library of the Presidential Library, which currently numbers about 600,000 entries, contains the archival materials on the history of construction and development of railways in Russia. Among them — a research work of the influence of railways on agriculture, industry and trade in the Russian Empire, the books on the work of railways in wartime and much more. However, the most interesting is the historical sketch of the development of railways in Russia from their foundation to the 1897 inclusive.
