15 June 2018

Football fans now have a chance to access the set of Spartak newspaper issues 1931-1939, available via the electronic library of the National Library of Russia in commemoration of FIFA World Cup.

The history of this legendary Leningrad publication began in May 1924, when the first issue of the magazine with the same name came out. By 1932 Spartak had become one of the key sports media sources of the country. The magazine had a circulation of 50,000. However the magazine format could not cover the wide array of information focused on the Soviet sport. On December 18, 1931 by the decision of the plenary session of the Supreme Council of Physical Education of RSFSR, Spartak magazine became a newspaper.
