History and Culture: Exhibition “Architect Silvio Danini – the last court architect» debuts in Moscow
An exhibition “Architect Silvio Danini – the last court architect” debuts in Moscow at the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture.
The exhibition is timed to 150th anniversary of the birth of the Emperor Nicholas II, 100th anniversary of the murder of the royal family and 150th anniversary of the birth of the architect Silvio Danini.
The name of Silvio Danini is closely associated with Tsarskoye Selo. Invited by the architecture academician Alexander Krasovsky, he took part in the renovation of the Winter Palace premises for the young imperial couple Nicholas II and Alexandra Fyodorovna. In 1896 Danini was appointed the architect of Tsarskoye Selo Palace Administration, while on October 5 1911 he was honoured with a title of the Architect of the Imperial Court. At the turn of centuries Danini was occupied with re-equipment and renovations at the Alexander Palace and introduced a lot of technical improvements. Emperor Nicholas II highly valued Danini's work and called him "our architect”.
On display are the photographs from the collections of the Museum of Architecture, sketches from the “Tsarskoye Selo” Museum-Reserve holdings and materials which were preserved in the besieged Leningrad and provided by the architect’s family.
