The World Culture: Qatar museums unveil a world-famous collection of pearls in Moscow

A new exhibition «Pearls: Treasures of the Seas and Rivers» is opening on July 10, 2018 at the State Historical Museum (Moscow).

The exhibition will showcase more than one hundred unique items and introduce visitors in Moscow to works of jewelry and applied art made from freshwater pearls of Central Asia. The exhibition of Qatar Museums has been organized by the World Diamond Museum.

The exhibition consists of fifty exhibits, which have never been displayed before, specially chosen for the show in Russia.

Among the masterpieces is a magnificent tiara of Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria and the ancient jewels of the royal houses of Europe.

This is the traveling exhibition of the Qatar Museums, which is one of their major projects that introduces visitors from different countries to the transformative role of the pearl industry in the history of Qatar and the world. Russia will become the sixth country to welcome the greatest works of art and highlights of world-famous jewelry houses. Tracing the emergence and development of pearl crafts, the exhibition narrates about the ancient ways of pearl fishery used by divers and gives a general picture of ​​the pearl trade in the Persian Gulf countries.

The Qatar-Russia 2018 Year of Culture was launched by the leading cultural organizations of Qatar and Russia, with the participation of the Embassy of Qatar in Moscow, the Russian Embassy in Doha, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Qatar and the ROSIZO State Museum and Exhibition Center, also supported by Qatar Airways.

This Year of Culture — is a part of a historical initiative developed under the leadership of the Chairman of the Qatar Museums, Her Excellency Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in 2012. It aims to improve mutual understanding between the people of two countries by way of exchange in the area of art, culture and historical legacy, and to provide a real opportunity to establish reliable relations between creative communities of Qatar and Russian society for a long-term and effective cooperation.
