International initiatives: Bikin National Park in Primorsky Krai is on UNESCO World Heritage list

The Bikin National Park in Primorsky Krai has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The resolution was passed on July 2 2018 at the meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Bahrain. The Bikin River Valley is recognized as «the extension of the Central Sikhote-Alin site, which was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2001.

The Central Sikhote-Alin nomination — is a system of clusters of highly-protected natural areas. In 2010 the Bikin River Valley was included into the preliminary UNESCO list. The Bikin National Park appeared in 2015. The park covers an area of over 1 million hectares.

So far four natural sites have UNESCO World Heritage status in the Far East: the Central Sikhote-Alin, volcanoes of Kamchatka, the Natural System of  Wrangel Island Reserve and Lena Pillars Nature Park.
