
Memory of Russia: Monument to Ivan Turgenev erected in Tula Region
“Bezhin Meadow” Festival in commemoration of 200th anniversary of the birth of the Russian classic writer Ivan Turgenev was held in Turgenevo village (Chern District, Tula Region).
A monument to the writer was unveiled as a part of the festival. Its author is sculptor Vitaly Kazansky. The monument is made of bronze and with the granite pedestal is 2.6 meters high. The writer seems to be captured in a moment when he arrives at his estate, and met by a dog, sits to rest on a bench by the house.
The first monument to Turgenev in Moscow will be unveiled on the eve of 200th anniversary of the writer’s birth, November 9, in the garden square named after the writer in Ostozhenka Street. In the street there is a lot of graffiti portraying the writer.
