Internet and Museums: Internet platform to provide union access to Moscow museum collections

31 July 2018

Digitized photographs and documents from expositions and collections of nearly fifty Moscow museums will become accessible online via a union platform. So far seven museums have provided their online exhibits, with the rest to follow them by the end of the year.

Collections of Moscow museums of the Moscow Department of Culture will be available online via the union Internet platform at union.catalog.mos.ru. The resource currently numbers over 7500 exhibits originating from seven city museums: the GULAG State History Museum, The Battle of Borodino Museum-Panorama, the Memorial  House-Museum of Marina Tsvetaeva, the Museum and Exhibition Center “Museum of Fashion”, the “Ostankino” Museum-Estate, Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russia Abroad and Ilya Glazunov Art Gallery.

The Moscow Department of Culture has teamed up with the Moscow Department of Information Technologies to mount the project uniting museum online collections.

The Internet platform will provide access to the major part of museum collections. Each exhibit will be retrievable by a key word or description using the advanced search. The exhibits will be grouped into themed albums and virtual exhibitions. In future, by means of this platform the museums will have an opportunity to launch virtual exhibitions, tours, mobile guided tours etc.
