The Russian State Library (Moscow) has launched a new stage of the project, which aims to digitize the Günzburg collection — one of the world’s richest collections of Jewish printed books and manuscripts. Along with scanning, the collection’s first ten manuscripts will be restored. Old books and manuscripts require careful treatment — book repositories maintain special temperature, humidity, and lighting. However, even though all these requirements are met, the time shows no mercy to old manuscripts. It is highly important to make sure that the scanning, called to preserve books for the future work with the collection, will do no harm to the valuable items
