5 September 2018

The Memory Research Center has completed the first stage of the project, which aims to create the electronic memorial book dedicated to Soviet citizens, who perished and were buried in Austria during World War II. To map the graves and monuments the Memory Research Center staff turned to archives of the Ministry of Defence of Russia, the State Archive of the Russian Federation, archives of localities and federal lands of Austria, records of localities, articles from Austrian and Soviet press, books and magazines published at different time.

The work over the map of memorial sites associated with the history of World War II and lives of Soviet citizens in Austria is underway. It currently features 37 sites: monuments, memorials and memorial plagues with photographs and short descriptions of the sites available in Russian and German.
