A new exhibition “Ask bibliographer” is opening on October 16, 2018 in the National Library of Russia, Korf Hall (St. Petersburg) to mark the centenary of Russia’s first bibliographic department – the Public Library Central Reference Enquiry Department.
This is the first exhibition that illustrates the work of bibliographers – specialists, who have a rare gift of helping people find necessary books. A bibliographer has to be well-read and quick-witted, have a good memory and logical thinking, be familiar with holdings of a particular library (the National Library of Russia holds over 38 million items). In other words, a bibliographer is a walking encyclopedia.
