On November 12, 2018 a stone was laid at the base of the future Rzhev Memorial in honour of heroes of the Great Patriotic War as part of the foundation stone-laying ceremony in Tver Region.
The 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will be marked in 2020. The Battle of Rzhev, which ended 75 years ago, to a great degree determined the further course of the Great Patriotic War.
On November 7 the President of Russia Vladimir Putin supported an idea of opening a memorial to Soviet soldiers, who were killed near Rzhev. It will be a 25-metre sculpture of a Soviet soldier, erected on a 10-metre mound near the Moscow-Riga Motorway.
