History and Culture: “Brush and Kalam” exhibition in St. Petersburg marks 200 years of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts RAS

On November 28, 2018 the State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) is presenting the exhibition “Brush and Kalam”, which marks the 200th anniversary of the Asiatic Museum – the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) – one of the world’s largest collections of Oriental manuscripts.

The display in the Winter Palace showcases selected examples of manuscripts and woodblock printed texts of various peoples of the East, whose book culture extended from Europe to Japan over the course of the last two millennia.
